Background

Several cities close their centres to cars on weekends. It is great for walkers and cafes, but difficult for the elderly, disabled people and anyone who lives far away.

Streets full of people are better for shops and for health than streets full of parked cars.

Disabled and elderly people often cannot walk or cycle in. A blanket ban shuts them out of the city centre on the days others enjoy it.

Weekend workers, including many in hospitality, rely on cars because buses do not run early or late enough.
